A snapshot from DesRosiers Automotive Consultants of how April 2023 new light vehicle sales fared on a provincial level reveals a mix of increases and decreases.
“Sales varied province to province in April, with no clear broader regional bias, highlighting the ongoing disparity in vehicle distribution,” said Andrew King, Managing Partner of DAC, in a statement.
According to the consulting company’s latest update, Manitoba experienced an estimated 13.4% sales increase for the month of April. Newfoundland and Alberta also saw strong sales during this period, with an estimated increase of 8.9% and 8.1%, respectively.
Québec and Saskatchewan, however, were down slightly — by 1.4% and 3.0%, respectively. And Ontario, which DAC said has been steadily outperforming the national market this year, experienced a low sales increase of 2.3%, “directly in line with the national average.”
“As we begin to approach the midpoint of the year, the recovery in new light vehicle sales continues to be restrained,” said King in a statement.
Total new light vehicle sales among reporting manufacturers were up 2.3% for April 2023, thanks to an estimated 144,069 units sold. Year-to-date, sales are up 4.3% (491,719 units) from a year earlier.
