A new sales report from DesRosiers shows a country with a wide divide in performance between the provinces, but with slowly improving sales over this past year. With a more positive sales result in new light vehicle sales for November overall, a number of provinces noted fairly sharp increases.
“With one more month of sales to go in the year, it appears likely all of the Canadian provinces are set to finish the year behind their own 2021 results, albeit with a fairly wide range of decreases between them,” said Andrew King, Managing Partner at DAC.
In terms of monthly percentage sales growth, Prince Edward Island and Manitoba noted sales increases of 20.7% and 12.3% respectively. Ontario secured a 7.2% increase in new light vehicle sales for the month, adding over three thousand units of volume. However, Alberta and Nova Scotia noted decreases of 2.9% and 1.3% respectively with Saskatchewan remaining near par with November 2021 results. Now approaching the end of the year, Saskatchewan noted a 4.7% decrease in new light vehicle sales year-to-date contrasted against Nova Scotia with its 17.1% decrease.
Overall November 2022 new light vehicle sales reached an estimated 114,966 units sold, up 4.1% from the slow sales in November 2021. Year-to-date, total Canadian new light vehicle sales have decreased 10.1% versus the first eleven months of last year.
