The gap between the percentage of Canadian and American consumers who said they were very likely to consider buying an electric vehicle has widened over the past year.
That is according to J.D. Power, which reviewed data from its 2023 Canada Electric Vehicle Consideration (EVC) Study and found that, in 2022, the difference was only 2 per cent. For 2023, they found the EV consideration gap between Canada and the United States had grown.
“According to the 2022 Canada EVC Study, 21 per cent of Canadians say they are very likely to consider an EV for their next vehicle purchase,” said J.D. Power in a news release.
The company plans to publicly release the study on June 29. J.D. Ney, Automotive Practice Lead in Canada, will also discuss some of the key findings in a webinar at 2:00pm ET.
“The survey, conducted via an online community, reflects perspectives not just from the minority of Canadian vehicle owners who’ve already purchased or leased a BEV (Battery Electric Vehicle), but the overwhelming majority who have not,” said J.D. Power in the release.
For the dealers that cannot join the webinar, Canadian auto dealer will review the study and publish a news article via its newsletter and website on June 30.
