Unifor ends strike action, reaches tentative agreement with Stellantis

Strike action has ended at Stellantis’ Canadian facilities after Unifor reached a tentative agreement with the automaker on Oct. 30, which follows the pattern agreement the union reached with Ford and General Motors this year.

“I am proud of our members at every Stellantis facility for their quick and decisive action during this brief and effective strike action,” said Unifor National President Lana Payne in a statement. “This agreement will considerably improve the living standards of every Unifor member at Stellantis.”

According to Unifor, Stellantis has the largest operational footprint and the biggest workforce in Canada. It also has the most vehicle products manufactured in the country. The new agreement covers Unifor members at the Windsor Assembly Plant, Brampton Assembly Plant, Etobicoke Casting Plant, and parts distribution centres in Mississauga and Red Deer (the latter of which is in Alberta).

The union secured paid increases, hourly and in general, the reactivation of the Cost of Living allowance, improvements in pension plans, and two new additional paid holidays — among other things.

“The agreement puts in place all the elements of our pattern agreement, the protections autoworkers need throughout the EV transition, and next-generation products our members will build for years to come,” said Unifor Stellantis Master Bargaining Chair James Stewart in a statement.
