A $229,356 investment to Hypercharge was announced on Sept. 20 by Canada’s Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Jonathan Wilkinson to install 48 Level 2 electric vehicle chargers in 11 parking lots across Southern Ontario.
Hypercharge also provided funding for the project, raising the total value to $458,712.
“We recognize that parking lot locations in these municipalities remain underserved by EV charging, and this investment ensures that we take a proactive step in addressing that gap,” said David Bibby, President and CEO of Hypercharge, in a statement.
The project is connected to the federal government’s larger goal of deploying a coast-to-coast-to-coast network of charging stations along highways and in communities in Canada. This means in public places, on streets, in multi-use residential buildings, at workplaces, and for vehicle fleets.
The government has so far helped fund the installation of nearly 45,000 chargers across the country. These latest EV All chargers will be available by December 2024.
“We’re making electric vehicles more affordable and charging more available where Canadians live, work and play,” said Wilkinson in a statement.
