After its success marketing Edmonton Oilers’ captain Connor McDavid in a funny commercial during the National Hockey League season and then into the playoffs, Go Auto is featuring him in a new commercial this year that includes Vancouver Canucks’ captain Bo Horvat.
“We wanted to promote our new app in a fun and memorable way as well as build on the success of last year’s spot,” said Duncan Cochrane, Go Auto Senior Vice President, Marketing and Software Development. “The audience really resonates watching the guys out of their natural hockey element. We added Bo, who is an absolutely great guy, this year as we have expanded into 10 dealerships in the Vancouver area.”
The commercial will run through to mid-December, similar to last year’s plan, although it was re-introduced for the playoffs because of the Oilers’ run through to the Western Conference Final. Cochrane said the newest commercial will run again in the playoffs.
“Hopefully all the way to June when the Oilers’ win the Stanley Cup,” said Cochrane.
Last year’s commercial had McDavid playing the role of a rookie salesman who sells cars with relative ease, much to the amazement of Canadian stars Hal Johnson and Joanne McLeod of BodyBreak fame, who portray senior salespeople.
This year’s commercial starts off with McDavid and Horvat saying Go Auto asked them to talk about the app and make it memorable. It is followed by McDavid meditating in the air, Horvat exercising with Johnson and McLeod, McDavid carving a turkey, Horvat holding a boombox while cars are bouncing up and down on hoists behind him, McDavid playing ping-pong similar to Forrest Gump, Horvat standing with some goats, and McDavid doing a portrait of Horvat.
“I think they’ll remember that,” says Horvat in the final scene.
“I know I will,” says McDavid.
Cochrane said with the new app, customers can book service appointments, pay for service, get their cars detailed service history with technicians’ videos, browse inventory and more.
