Canadian provincial sales of new light vehicles revealed double-digit growth among reporting manufacturers in June, according to DesRosiers Automotive Consultants (DAC).
This period represents Canada’s eighth consecutive month of year-over-year increases, climbing 12.6% to an estimated 162,000 units sold. For the first half of June, it saw new light vehicle sales jump 7.6%.
“With the encouraging performance at the national level, the Canadian provinces came in overwhelmingly positive for the month,” said Andrew King, Managing Partner at DAC, in a statement. “However, a significant gap remains from pre-pandemic sales levels with the market YTD still 17.0% below 2019 performance.”
The largest sales increase, in terms of percentage, came from British Columbia; sales were up an estimated 20.2% over June 2022. Newfoundland and Alberta were close behind with increases of 15.8% and 15.7%, respectively. At the same time, Manitoba and Saskatchewan underperformed the market; sales for these two were up only 4.2% and 3.1%, respectively.
As for Newfoundland, during the first half of June it noted the largest increase — at 12.8%. Saskatchewan, on the other hand, leaned heavily to the other end of the spectrum after experiencing a minor 0.2% decrease.
