The new year is starting off on a positive note for at least one OEM. Despite significant supply chain issues impacting the auto industry in 2022, Toyota Canada Inc. (TCI) ended the year robustly, with strong December and fourth quarter sales pushing the company past the 200,000 sales mark for 2022. Toyota’s electrified products did exceptionally well, with the Lexus NX and RX Hybrids breaking annual records.
TCI’s Q4 sales represented 45,176 units, up 9.5% year over year, for a total of 200,204 units for the year. Toyota division sold 38,673 units, up eight per cent from Q4 2021, while Lexus division sold 6,503 units, up 19.4% from Q4 2021.
TCI’s December sales accounted for 13,393 units sold, up 11.6% from December 2021. Toyota division sold 11,453 units, up 8.4% from December 2021, for a total of 175,181 units sold in 2022, down 12.1% from 2021. Lexus division sold 1,940 units in December, up 35.6% from December 2021, and setting a December sales record. Lexus ended the year with 25,023 units sold, down 3.4% from 2021.

Electrified vehicles continued to lead the way for TCI, with 51,767 units sold, representing 25.9% of the company’s overall vehicle sales in 2022. Toyota division sold 41,987 electrified vehicles in 2022, representing 24.0% of its total sales. And, led by very strong sales for the NX Hybrid and RX Hybrid, the Lexus division sold a record 9,780 electrified vehicles in 2022, representing 39.1% of its total sales for the year.
With 55,921 units sold in 2022, the Toyota RAV4, remains the best-selling passenger vehicle in Canada. And the Toyota Corolla, with 33,096 units sold in 2022, has become the best-selling car in Canada.
